Director General's Message

Dr. G. Sridhar

Director General

I feel privileged to serve as the Director General of Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), an autonomous institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, which formally started functioning in 2009.

It is a matter of great pride that the R&D centre which functioned with very few scientific staff, till very recently, has made modest contributions, which is reflected in the number of scientific papers published, training of post graduate and post-doctoral fellows and capacity building activities. Now with the infusion of new scientific staff, I am confident that SSS NIBE has a bright future and will strive to become a centre of excellence in the field of bioenergy.

In the coming years, we will aim to focus on building our core research strength in developing technologies and solutions that have societal relevance and thereby enhance the contribution of bioenergy in India towards attaining carbon neutrality by 2070.

I look forward to guiding the team which is a mix of veterans and new members to flourish and attain new peaks.

Secretary’s Message

Sh. Prashant Kumar Singh (IAS)

Secretary MNRE, Government of India

Bioenergy is a crucial pillar in India’s transition to a sustainable and self-reliant energy future. It is crucial to unlock the full potential of this sector, not only to diversify our energy mix, but also to ensure enhanced energy access, rural development, and environmental sustainability.

In this regard, Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE) has been at the forefront of this transformation, driving cutting-edge research, technological innovations, and capacity building in bioenergy. Through its efforts, SSS NIBE is playing a key role in the development of modern bioenergy technologies, advanced biofuels and sustainable value-added products, all of which are vital to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change.

As we continue to pursue the ambitious goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, bioenergy will remain an integral part of India’s strategy. SSS NIBE’s work will not only help in achieving our energy targets but also support greener livelihoods generation, rural economy, and cleaner environment for future generations. I commend the institute for its contributions to the bioenergy sector and for its unwavering commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy mission.
